Blog Love: i suwannee

Both Susan and I read other design blogs tirelessly, and many of them were the inspiration for us to get started on blogging ourselves. Today, I wanted to feature one of my favorite blogs that provides a endless source of design inspiration and humor. The blog is i suwannee, which is written by the talented Jamie Meares. One of my favorite features on her blog, and the thing that initially had me coming back over and over, is her “Bookcase of the Day” posts. Not only am I super passionate about reading, but ever since I was a kid and went to those “Showcase of Homes” tours with my Mom, I have ALWAYS wanted a huge, floor to ceiling bookcase in my home. You know, one with one of those sliding ladders that you can climb up to pick your favorite book of the shelf? One day I tell you, one day…

Here’s some of my favorites from her blog —

Cooking tools and white tile with black grout? Yes please!

BLACK GLOSSY!

Not only does i suwannee have great bookcases, but Jamie has her own shop called Furbish Studio, which is based in North Carolina (and will soon have a online shop). She buys vintage furniture and refinishes it, and it is ALL beautiful! Her blog provides an endless source of inspiration for great DIY projects and the fact that old/ugly furniture can be brought to life with beautiful paint and fabric choices.

Here are a few of my favs –

In short, 1. how cool is that stuff? Awesome, I know. 2. Everyone should check out i suwannee! Do it! Do it now!

Enjoy!

Blog Love – Absolutely Beautiful Things

Happy Wednesday everyone!

I’m back today to showcase a blog I go to often for inspiration called absolutely beautiful things. Anna Spiro is the author of the blog, a proud Australian, as well as store owner of Black and Spiro, which has just undergone a major facelift. We’re lucky enough to see the finished product of the store refinishing, featured on her blog. Not only do I love Anna’s personal decorating style, which is filled with bold colors and a touch of whimsy, but my younger sister lives in Australia and I love to think about her one day going to the store and checking it out for me! I hope to visit her there one day, so I can check out all of the amazing style inspiration (and because I love her!!). Until then, these images from Anna’s store opening will have to suffice.

White walls, black glossy and pops of color? You had me at hello!

Anna's skirted tutu desk at her shop. So whimsical!

While I'm not normally a big pink fan, I love this room for inspiration on using color and pattern together. What a bold way to decorate!

So what do you guys think? Do you love Anna’s shop? Has anyone been to Australia to check out their fun and casual style? A couple of other inspiring Australian decor sites — The wonderful blog Ish and Chi and their magazine a la Domino, Real Living.

Design Sponge coming to Portland!

Just in case you guys haven’t seen, Design Sponge is coming to Portland! What a great opportunity to meet one of design bloggers leading innovators, Grace Bonney! She and other Designspongers will be at a cocktail hour hosted by Alder & Co, on Tuesday, August 3rd from 5pm-8pm. You better believe that I’ll be there to meet and mingle with other Portland decor lovers and hopefully learn some awesome DIY tips from Grace too! Info listed about RSVP, etc for the event on the Design Sponge website here.

Just to tempt you to attend. Check out these awesome pictures of Grace’s NYC apartment, that was featured in the first issue of LonnyMag. I’ll tell you what — I’ll take tips from her any day!

Hope to see some fellow Portland design lovers at the event!

Jonathan Adler lovers…

You must read this! The beautiful and talented Erin of Elements of Style got to meet him yesterday and chronicles their meeting and the fact that he is just as happy and cheerful as his designs. Both Susan and I love him (as you probably guessed given our multiple mentions), and have items of his in our homes.

Here are two of them. A fishy sculpture and a penguin, which I have as a christmas ornament.

Here fishy, fishy, fishy....

Hope you enviously enjoy Erin’s post as much as we did!
