My Kitchen…for now

Here is a shot of my kitchen with the Thomas Paul plates that I had previously blogged about here. I love those melamine plates so much I have suggested the use of them in other projects, like the idea board we put together for Amy here. I would eventually love to ditch the recessed lighting and hang pendant lights above the island….but as my Mister says, “One thing at a time.”

He reminds me of that because when we moved in we replaced the floor, countertops, backsplash, sink, the dishwasher and the micro. We also painted the base of the island which used to be a light birch color. We also rushed to finish as our previous home was on the market at the time. I think he is a bit tired of projects. Luckily, he has me for motivation! A pendant light above the sink would look great too. If you agree, I’ll tell him you said so.

We purchased a new table a few months back and I am loving it. The only problem is the maintenance. The marble shows EVERYTHING, even water spots. After a panicked phone call on what to do, the helpful staff at Crate and Barrel suggested a thin, custom piece of glass be applied to the top. So I am on the case, calling around to get the best price on that. I love the idea, because it won’t tamper with the look.

Working Weekend…

This weekend I am working. Normally I would be real ticked about that, but this is FUN work. A few weeks ago I posted my preliminary ideas for my Mom’s upcoming beach home construction here. She and her friends loved my ideas, so I am consulting on a few other rooms in the home. Exciting? I think so. Above is a rough 10 minute attempt at one of the guest rooms. Pulled from West Elm, Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, and All Modern. We will see how everything comes together tomorrow on our shopping trip. Weekend work=shopping which is always a recipe for a good time.

Happy Weekend.

Ideas galore for a lovely beach house

My parents and their friends are building a beach house on the Oregon coast. I was so happy when my parents told me, and immediatly the designer in me began spinning my wheels, and shuffling through my mental inspiration files. So I was delighted when my mom asked me to come up with an inspiring mood board as she and her friends embark on this journey.

First we needed a guiding light. Enter the best movie set beach house of all time. The house from “Something’s Gotta Give.” You know it. Check it out. I would move here in a minute, would you?

Dreamy Kitchen! This reminds me of the Barefoot Contessa kitchen.

Shot from the opposite side.

The cozy living room

And a shot from the other side

There are so many things to LOVE about this house and if you have seen the movie you know that it is visual eye candy for 2 solid hours. I just love that the entire scheme is white, blue, and neutral with subtle punches of color. (No shells, or cheesy beach signs in sight). Also, the materials are natural which allows the coastal feel to take center stage.

Here are my slightly more modern picks for the house. Just to wet the palette, later I’ll post my full mood board.

Starting with the new Oasis couch from Crate and Barrel. I promise, this is so much more lovely in person.

To be accented with Thomas Paul pillows. You know he’s my favorite.

Moby Dick pillow

Anchor pillow

This fish pillow because mixing orange and blue is a fun way to add in some pop

Wood Chandy

Crate and Barrel side table

To mimic the rug in the inspiration picture, pretty some fabric

I have many more ideas to come. I just need to sort through all of my thoughts.

We “heart” Thomas Paul around here…

Hey There!

I picked up these melamine silhouette plates at one of our local Portland fav’s Manor a couple of weeks ago. They are designed by none other than the great Thomas Paul…you know we love him. I have been eyeing these beauties for many years. I was so happy to finally figure out a display place for them in my kitchen. (Photo’s to come, when the Mister gets around to hanging them for me, wink)

Don’t you just love it when you snatch something you’ve been dreaming about forever?? I sure do. Especially at this affordable price tag, $26.00 for the set.

Thomas Paul Fall Preview!

Susan and I have talked about our love for Thomas Paul several times here and here. Well I was checking out Design Sponge yesterday (t-minus 5 days until they are here in Portland!), and they were kind enough to put up the fall preview of Thomas Paul’s line. OH BABY! There are some gems in there. Our favorites of the bunch are:

These fantastic chevron pillows. You know Susan’s current love of chevron from her upcoming upholstery project.

Octopus shower curtain! I think this might be just the thing to spruce up our sad little bathroom. Yellow, yellow everywhere, needs just a touch of whimsy.

Horse throws! My personal obsession for horse decor is also well documented, here and here. I need to make a confession about that too. Honestly, I’m scared of horses in real life. Every time I’m around them I’m terrifed, so I really can’t explain why I think they are so awesome in my home. I’m been lusting after some horse photographs for awhile now too. Sorry for the random aside…

Anyway – what do you think about the fall collection? You can check out more of a preview over on Design Sponge.
